Since the end of 2012 I’ve been involved with sessions aimed at developing new women racers’ knowledge and participation in the UK race scene. Alongside some of the local clubs, race organisers and riders we have delivered sessions in the North West, the East and West Midlands, the central region and London and the South East. The sessions are delivered by myself with the assistance of local coaches, teams and expert riders.
Amongst others we’ve worked with riders from Matrix Pro Fitness, Epic Scott, Ikon Mazda, Giordana Triton, Corley Drops, Les Filles, Cadence Sport and PMR Toachim House riders.
The aim of the sessions is to encourage more local women to try racing, local organisers to put on entry level events for them, and local coaches to carry on a development programme on a regular basis moving forward. The best example of this has been the great work that Heather Bamforth, one of the original coaches and organiser on the sessions in the North West, has done in setting up the Racing Chance Foundation which provides opportunities for women racers both at home and abroad.
Please get in touch for details of how to organise a novice women’s race training session in your area.
